Professional Education Education

Apprenticeship for Professional Qualification and Diploma

Individuals between the ages of 15 and 25 in all sectors of activity can be hired with an apprenticeship contract to obtain a professional qualification and diploma, upper secondary education diploma and professional specialisation.

This type of apprenticeship is also aimed at young people who have not completed compulsory schooling and who will thus be able to obtain the upper secondary education diploma, as well as those enrolled from the second year of upper secondary technical and professional institutes.

The employer who intends to stipulate the apprenticeship contract signs a protocol with the educational institution where the student is enrolled, according to the scheme defined in the Interministerial Decree of 12 October 2015.

The duration of the training period varies in relation to the qualification or diploma to be obtained, in any case, it cannot be less than six months. The Interministerial Decree of 12 October 2015 which defines the training standards that constitute the essential levels of services, establishes that the maximum duration is as follows:

  • 3 years to obtain the vocational education and training qualification
  • 4 years to obtain the vocational education and training diploma
  • 4 years to obtain the upper secondary education diploma
  • 2 years for attendance of the annual supplementary course for admission to the state exam pursuant to art. 15, paragraph 6, of Legislative Decree no. 226/2005
  • 1 year to obtain the vocational education and training diploma for those who hold the vocational education and training qualification in the corresponding professional field
  • 1 year to obtain the higher technical specialization certificate
